Kitui governor Charity Ngilu has pledged to unite warring Ukambani leaders.

Ngilu says that her first mission as governor is to reach out to regional leaders who have had political differences for over the years.

Speaking on Monday during her swearing-in ceremony, Ngilu said that disunity among region politicians continue to hurt development.

She said that Ukambani has not achieved its key development agenda despite producing top leaders in government.

"As a region, we have nothing to celebrate about in terms of development because of wrangles, disunity, and blackmailing among son of our leaders," she said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Ngilu appealed to region politicians to soften and embrace unity.

The Kitui governor said that without unity the region will continue to lag behind.

"As elected leaders in Ukambani we have no option but to embrace each other for the sake of our people," she added.

Ngilu at the same time asked elected governors to use devolution for the benefit of residents.

She said that devolution will work if elected leaders focus on key services that will transform the region's development sphere.

Ngilu promised to champion development for Kitui people. She pledged to make Kitui an economic hub within 100 days.

The Narc party leader urged locals to support her as she implements her development manifesto.
