Kitui Governor hopeful Charity Ngilu has called on the government to beef up security in the country as Kenyans prepare to go to the polls on August 8.
Addressing supporters in Kitui Town on Saturday, Ngilu expressed concerns over rising level of insecurity in Northern Kenya and other parts of the country.
She said that security has to be tightened to ensure that the country remains peaceful and security before, during and after the August 8, general election.
Ngilu said that rising level of insecurity could jeopardize free, fair and credible August 8, general election.
“The government must assure Kenyans that their security is guaranteed before, during and after the August 8 polls, she said as quoted by the Standard.
Ngilu asked the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to deploy adequate security officers across the country to ensure the safety of citizens as they prepare for the election.
The Governor hopeful condemned last week's attack on Mandera Governor Ali Roba’s convoy and called for strict security surveillance in Northern Kenya.
She said that the attack on Roba’s convoy should not be treated casually. Governor Roba’s convoy was attacked on Wednesday last week in Mandera leading to the death of five police officers.
The attack has been condemned by leaders calling on the government to allocate the governor more security as this is not the first time his convoy was being attacked.
