Kitui governor elect Charity Ngilu has asked the county government assumption of office committee not to spend Sh6 million set aside for her inauguration.
Ngilu instead wants the money to be used on water projects.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with county commissioner Boaz Cheorotich, Ngilu said that she cannot have an extravagant inauguration yet locals cannot access clean water.
She directed the commitee to use the money in funding short term water projects.
"It is wrong to blow off Sh6 million on a one day event when residents are languising to get clean waterwater," she said as quoted by thethe Star.
Ngilu said that her inauguration can even be conducted in an office stating that the interests of the locals is what matters to her.
The Narc party leader said that she will work hard to change the county's development fortunes.
The governor elect said that she has a workable manifesto that will transform the county's economic sphere.
Ngilu trounced the outgoing governor Julius Malombe and senator David Musila to win the governor seat.
The former Lands CS has however reached out to Malombe and Musila saying she is ready to work with them fo development.
Ngilu is among three women who were elcted governor in the just concluded general election.
Others are Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga) and Joyce Laboso (Bomet).
