Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu is advocating for the overhauling of the Sh9.8 billion county budget passed in March.

According to the Star, Ngilu, who dethroned Wiper’s Malombe Julius, said that the budget which was passed when the last government was in power does not conform to her development agenda nor does administrative police as she seeks to transform the region in the next five years of her leadership.

The former lands minister said that she wants the budget reviewed to meet the requirements of Section 108 of the Public Finance Management Act. The lawmaker, who was speaking on Tuesday during the opening of the county assembly, asked the MCAs to deliver on their duties diligently without fear or favor.  She asked the lawmakers to honor the promises they made to the electorate when seeking for the elective posts before the August exercise.

"Hon speaker, you are familiar with the 2017-18 budget which was passed by the last assembly in March 2017, and you will agree with me that it largely does not reflect the needs and priorities that I have just outlined," Ngilu said, as quoted by Star.

She also reminded the leaders that the residents are looking up to them to ensure that there is no poverty in the county, adding that there is need for commitment and hard work from their side.

"You and I have a special and sacred duty not to disappoint our people. Let us look at this moment as a call to action for all of us to arise and do the best for our county," she said.
