Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has warned county employees against wastage of public resources.

Ngilu says that both senior and junior employees must account to the resources given to them to facilitate their work.

Speaking to journalists at the county offices after flagging off water tanks  to various sub counties on Wednesday, Ngilu said that employees who misuse or waste public resources will have themselves to blame.

She said that senior county officials who have the tendency of using government vehicles for their own activities will be dealt with accordingly.

She said that county vehicles will not be allowed to operate beyond official working hours unless properly authorized.

“We are taking stern austerity measures to ensure that we safeguard public resources and use the resources for the benefit of the people,” she as quoted by the People Daily.

Ngilu said her administration was focused on offering efficient services to the locals.

The governor said she will soon hold a meeting with county MCAs to have money allocated to development projects increased.

Ngilu said that a huge chunk of the county budget goes to paying employee salaries.

The Narc Party leader also revealed that she will lobby the national government to increase the county’s funding as well as seek funding and investment from local and foreign investors.

The former Lands Cabinet Secretary (CS) said that her tray is full, adding that she will work day and night to ensure residents have access to services.

Ngilu rubbished those questioning her track record, saying they are jealous that she won the governor seat.

“Many of my critics did not believe that I will win the Kitui governor seat and have now started fighting my government,” she said, stating that she will not listen to negative criticism.
