Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has filed a petition at the High Court in Kitui town, challenging the election of Charity Ngilu.

In the petition, the former county boss said Ngilu was not validly elected as governor and her victory should be nullified.

IEBC declared Ngilu a winner with 169,990 votes with her closest rival former Kitui senator David Musila managed to get 114,827 votes and Malombe was last with 74,681 votes.

According to Malombe, Ngilu’s agents rigged the election as his agents were barred from some polling stations such as in Kitui Central and Kitui East.

He wants the court to order scrutiny and recount of all votes cast since the results were predetermined.

Ngilu, IEBC and Kitui county returning officer Gogo Nguma have been named as respondents in the petition.

Malombe will be represented by lawyers Okong’o Omogeni, Apollo Muinde and Musesya Samson.
