Ngilu notes that electoral reforms are a must for the country’s future credible and transparent general elections.

Ngilu says that Uhuru and Raila must champion for electoral changes and ensure Kenyans confidence in the electoral system is restored ahead of 2022.

She said that elections is one of the issues that cause divisions and can only be cured through credible election systems.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta must be on the frontline and advocate for electoral reforms as part of the national unity and reconciliation processes,” she said as quoted by a local daily.

Ngilu said that there is a need for serious reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

She said that Kenyans have no confidence in the current commission and cannot trust it to oversee the next general election.

Governor Ngilu also asked president Kenyatta to ensure justice is served to victims of the post-election conflict.

She said that many Kenyans are still nursing from effects of last years and previous general election.

Ngilu’s statement comes as pressure continues to pile on IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to resign.

A section of politician's want Chebukati to quit just days after three commissioner's led by Vice chairperson Connie  Nkatha Maina tendered their resignations.

Last Week, Chebukati send CEO Ezra Chiloba on compulsory leave over tender issues relating to procurement of election material used in last year’s general election.
