The county government of Kitui will adjust the annual budget for the fiscal years 2017-2018 in order to conform to plans of the new leadership, Former Lands Minister Charity Ngilu has said.
According to The Star, Ngilu, who is the incumbent county boss, said that she is working to ensure that the new budget will address different pressing issues in the government including food, water security, development agenda and eradication of poverty among others.
The Governor, who was speaking during the official opening of the county assembly, said that her government is committed to ensuring better leadership in the next five years following her election.
An internal source revealed that she wants the budget to be in line with the five pillars of her manifesto as she seeks to transform the county’s economy.
The governor attended the cabinet meeting alongside his Deputy Governor Wathe Nzau, who has promised to support her transform the region. The recommendations of the meeting were forwarded to the county assembly ahead of approval from the Members of the county Assembly.
The government will allocate Sh138 million for health projects, Sh120million for water programmes Sh135 million for the seeds, Sh110 million for tractors and Sh13 million for the boda-boda initiatives.
