Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has said that residents of her backyard will not take part in the rerun if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) does not heed to the demands of the opposition.
Speaking during Mashujaa day celebrations at the county, Ngilu said that residents will not turn up to take part in the repeat election after the electoral body failed to respond to the irreducible demands of former prime minister, Raila Amolo Odinga.
"We declare that we will not and shall not participate in that election. Let IEBC show its independence and let President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto stand and say they are going to elections with reformed IEBC," she said, as quoted by The Star.
Other leaders who attended include MPs Gideon Mulyungi (Mwingi Central), Charles Nguna (Mwingi West) and Musyimi Nzengu (Mwingi North)
In the meantime, Raila, who is taking a fourth stab at the nation’s top post has insisted that elections will not take place in his strongholds unless the electoral body assures him of free and fair exercise.
The opposition has vowed to organize protests across the country on the election date in a bid to stop the process from taking place.
