Phyllis Omido, has accused the organisation of attempting to mislead the residents in their fight for justice.

The 2015 Goldman Environmental Award Winner, has called upon the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko to ensure that investigations are carried out and action taken against the organisation.

She filed a case at the Mombasa Environment and Lands Court to have the contaminated soils and water in the estate cleaned.

The land in question is located in Changamwe, adjacent to the Metal Refinery (EPZ) Ltd that has remained closed after residents raised concerns over lead poisoning.

In a statement seen by The Star, Omido claims that the organisation attempted to threaten one Mzee Alfred Ogolla for refusing to provide them with information regarding the suit.

“This is criminal and we ask the DPP to step in and demand an investigation into the involvement of Haki Yetu organization in this,” she said, as quoted by The Star.

However, the organisation has denied Omodi’s allegations.

Haki Yetu official John Paul on his part claimed that Omido is mudslinging the organization, adding that she was the one who threatened the resident in question.
