The Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Council has issued the National government with a seven days ultimatum to ensure all governors who have been implicated to various cases of graft, are arrested and grilled.
Citing a recent 2014/2015 Financial Year audit report released by the Auditor General Edward Ouko, NGO Council chairman Samuel Githinji expressed disappointment, saying it was unfortunate that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was yet to act on the report, even after it was made public.
Githinji demanded that EACC and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) takes action against governors whose Counties could not account for the unaccounted public funds, failure to which the Organization will mobilize Kenyans for street protests.
He as well faulted governors for failing to appear before the Senate Public Accounts Committee, for accountability over expenditures in their respective Counties.
He addressed the press, Friday, flanked by Martin Ocholla from the Centre for Strategic Affairs Development.
Some of the Counties that the audit report disclosed massive loss of funds include: Taita Taveta, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Nairobi, Siaya, Nakuru, and Nyamira.
