Civil Society Organization Network, an NGO based in Kisii has defended Kisii Land’s registrar over corruption allegations raised by residents.
A group of residents on Wednesday stormed Kisii Land’s office and demanded the resignation of the land’s registrar Steve Mogaka Mokaya on grounds that the land’s office is favoring cartels in the processing of land documents.
The NGO on Friday said residents who demonstrated on Wednesday are being used by corrupt leaders to threaten the registrar who has streamlined the land office.
According to the NGO, the protestors were after satisfying their selfish interests.
“Corrupt leaders who grabbed public lands and have been denied ownership documents are using the back door to push for the resignation of the current land’s registrar Mr. Mokaya so that they can get the documents. It is time to take away grabbed lands from cartels,” said the NGO’s member named as Nyakwama.
