The King'ara Foundation, a non-profit organisation distributed the items which included wheat and maize four, rice, cooking oil and blankets to over 200 persons.

Speaking during the occasion, the foundation’s chairman Mr Stephen Nga'ng'a said that they decided to donate the presents to usher the underprivileged persons in Ruiru Town into the festive season.

“The underprivileged persons are part and parcel of the society and there is need to help them during this festive season,” said Nga'ng'a.

Ng'ang'a said that the elderly have been abandoned by their close members of families and expressed concern over the rising number of abandoned elderly people.

“It’s shocking to see the rising number of elderly people who have been neglected by their families,” said the chairman.

He said that many elderly people are wallowing in extreme poverty and he urged the county and the national government to increase the allocation of stipends for the elderly.

Ng'ang'a also urged the county government to allocate funds for establishment of schools and hospitals for the underprivileged persons in Ruiru Town.

“ The county government should think of setting up schools and hospitals to enable the underprivileged persons access education and medical health care at affordable rates,” said Ng'ang'a.

He further called on other NGOs to follow their footsteps in providing charitable services.
