A Muslim non-governmental organisation in North Eastern region has donated foodstuffs worth Sh2 million to the needy residents living in five settlements within expansive Garissa town.

The CEO of North Eastern Youth for Development (NEYD), Adhan Awle said the foodstuff donations benefited approximately 500 households and will be expected to last the beneficiaries the next 15 days where the Ramadhan fast shall have ended.

The five settlements that benefited include Bulla Masalani, Bulla Ijara, Bulla Suna and Bulla Sambul.

Awle said that his organisation had also made four other similar donations to the same class of people in residing at different areas within the county, including refugee camps. The donations included wheat flour, tea leaves, sugar, oil and other household consumables.

'We resolved to spread these food donations because needy people are also spread across the county and our target is to reach as many households as possible,’' he said.

The officer noted that the youth organisation comprises of 50 members who have devoted their time and contributions towards assisting the less fortunate members of the Muslim society.

The NGO is funded and sponsored by the Saudi Embassy and Zakat Foundation, America.
