The county government of Machakos has partnered with a nongovernmental organization to sensitize residents on autism.

According to KBC, autism and cerebral palsy have become very common among children in this part of the nation. The sensitization campaigns organized by the county government and The Doors of Hope mission will be conducted in Mavoko.

The campaign aims at debunking the belief that the two health-related complications are associated with witchcraft. The complication has seen some men deserting wives with children suffering from the same.

Mlolongo township location Chief Peter Ndunda has asked parents not to hide their children because of being affected with the problem in question.

The disability assessment officer based in Machakos County, Richard Ndolo, raised the concern of the low number of schools attending to the needs of such students. The new campaign is expected to change the mindset of the residents of the county as Governor Alfred Mutua puts in place measures for better health.

The county boss has pledged to prioritize health among other sectors of the economy after he won a second term in power.
