A non-governmental organisation in Lari has today launched a mentorship camp for girls between 10-16 which will commence on December 26 to December 30.

Speaking in her office today in Lari, the chair lady of Equality Kenya Organisation Ms Elizabeth Njeri said the camp will train the girls on confidence building, rights of children, basic hygiene, life skills, and illegality of female circumcision.

She said that this programme was set because most girls in the society feel inferior and lack confidence in many areas.

She mentioned how the girl child was being forced into marriage, FGM and also dropping out of school.

"When we train them in the camp, the girls will come out being confident about their place in the society," said Njeri.

She also said that during the camp they would also educate the teenagers on adolescence and how to handle it since most parents especially mothers shied away from guiding their girls during this stage of life which makes them mess up and end up with unwanted pregnancies.

She revealed that they targetted over 200 girls. However, she mentioned that the programme is free of charge to all children and all their needs will be provided by the organisation.

"We are calling on parents to register their girls for this camp as it will totally transform their lives. So far we have registered 112 girls and we are targeting at least 200 girls," said Njeri.
