A Non-Governmental Organization, Angaza Empowerment Network, has moved to court seeking to block the nomination of Kennedy Musyoka to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Parliament.
The lobby group has cited nepotism and breach of gender rule by the Wiper Party.
According to the organization, ODM, Wiper Party and Ford Kenya forwarded four names to parliament—including that of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s without undertaking consultations.
“Article 38 of the Constitution provides that every citizen as a right to free and fair elections based on free expression of the will of the electors. The list submitted by the 3rd, 4th and 5th Respondents are in breach of Article 38,” reads the petition. The parties are listed as respondents in the suit filed Monday.
“The list does not afford the electors (Members of Parliament) with an opportunity to express their free will. Instead, it reduces the electors to be mere rubber stamps as they have no option but to pass the list as presented,” the petitioner argues.
The organization also argues that the process of picking the opposition candidates was not open and transparent.
Besides Kennedy Kalonzo, the opposition has nominated Abubakar Zein Abubakar, Judith Ramaitha Pareno and Ronald Kipng’etich for the regional assembly.
