The NGO, Kisumu Aid, was started after the proprietors discovered that the youth are most affected by the drug menace yet they are a vital component for a better future.

“The youths will steer the economy in the next few years, and that can only happen on a sober mind. It is time we do something to secure this future,” said Catherine Livigiza, chairperson of the NGO.

She was speaking on Thursday evening in Kisumu during a training session on how to handle those affected with drugs.

Livigiza said that her NGO had employed the services of former drug addicts, opinion leaders and counsellors in order to curb the menace that is on the rise in the county.

Kisumu Aid, which has been in existence for a year now offers rehabilitation services to addicts and sensitises them on the effects of using drugs.

They have been using Churches, schools and social media to identify those in need of help.

“We do not only offer counselling services but together with our sponsors, we identify former addicts to make them productive members of the society,” said Livigiza.

During the session, a total 50 volunteers were trained on how to assist addicts.
