The NGO, Community Health Education and Development Action (CHEDA), gave women equipment that will enable them start salons while the men were rewarded with pressure pumps that will help them start their own car wash businesses.

Speaking in Matuu town on Monday, CHEDA chairperson Alphonce Munyoki said that the project was started to ensure that those who are less fortunate do not lack the basic needs in life.

“I am very saddened whenever I see the orphans and the less fortunate lacking food, clothes while others even do not have a place to sleep. It is every person’s responsibility to ensure that we help these people," Munyoki said.

Munyoki called on leaders to come up with mechanisms and projects that will help such people.

"Our leaders should be on the forefront in ensuring that they empower the orphans and the less fortunate economically," he said.
