The Paul Matheka Foundation is setting up the Ndipu Earth Dam, a project that is planned to take an estimate of Sh5 million.

Confirming on the project on Friday on the dam scene, the founder and director of the organization Paul Matheka said their objective was to provide water for the residents.

Matheka stated that women and children were the most affected in the area due to immense water shortage.

“The main aim of digging and building the Ndipu-Earth dam is to set up a permanent solution for water shortage. The women travel together with their children and livestock for more than 3 km in search of water,” he said

According to Matheka, the dam project was begun by the government in 1968, where the measurements were taken, however until this year (2015) nothing has been done at all.

The project is expected to supply 4,000 residents with water as it is 4-41/2KM wide.

“The dam measurements were taken back in the 1968 by the government and the residents have been trekking in search of water as they waited. We want water to penetrate to more than 4,000 residents,” added Matheka.

Speaking after witnessing commencement of the project, Rosemary Muli, a resident expressed her gratitude to the foundation stating it is a blessing.

“We have suffered due to water shortage and we see the project as a blessing because as of now a one 20 liter container of water is being sold at Sh20, which is expensive,” said Muli.
