The aid that is funded by Integrated Education for Life (IEL), an NGO based in Kamwangi, is meant to benefit orphans and vulnerable children around the sub county.

IEL Chairman Dorothy Wandia said the program has assisted needy students across the sub county get access to education that has become quite expensive and elusive in the country.

Wandia said students who want benefit from the kitty must prove need and education competence.

She added that the organisation will continue to work with the surrounding community to identify their deserving needs and cases that face communities.

Announcing the bursaries in Kamwangi town on Wednesday, Wandia noted that community volunteers working with IEL in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the bursaries will be on course from Monday to receive and verify applications so that beneficiaries complete education in the schools they are currently attending.

She noted that the NGO is currently fully funding 5 students in the sub county, has sponsored over 5,000 adding that the second phase of the bursaries will begin in September this year and hopefully more deserving cases will be identified and reached in the sub county.

James Kariuki, a member of the education stakeholders in the sub county who was present at the function applauded the organisation and asked them to continue supporting the needy so as to promote and enhance education in the area.

He asked other development programs and NGOs to partner with the ruling governments in supporting needy students adding that the sub county will provide an enabling environment to all learners.

Wandia asked the expected beneficiaries to deliver by working hard, being committed, ensure they post good grades and maintaining high standards of discipline as the only way of giving back to the sponsors.
