European Union has announced a project that is targeted at helping women politicians in counties that have a lower women representation.
According to the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights, the NGO has rolled out of a total of Sh216 million in a kitty that is set to offer training services and facilities to aspiring women politicians on skills and tactics of campaigning prior to the 2017 election campaigns.
The project will bolster the capabilities of up coming women politicians through mentorship and increasing their membership in local political parties. The project also seeks to increase citizen awareness on the importance of equal and widespread participation of women in the politics.
Four established NGOs have already been tasked to implement and oversee the project in the eligible counties.
"We Effect, Media Focus on Africa Foundation, Groots Kenya and Megen organizations will train the women politicians in the 18 counties participating in the project," read part of the statement from the EU.
The eligible counties include Garissa, Kisii, Mandera, Nakuru, Wajir, Turkana and Nairobi are some of the counties that will benefit from the funding.
