A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Kisumu County is set to educate and provide self-testing kits to the Kisumu residents.
Kisumu County Health Awareness expert Maurice Wanzala, speaking today at World Vision noted that plans are underway to help locals know their HIV/AIDS status through training and distribution of the kits.
According to Wanzala, most of the locals feared attending Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) Centres but by training the locals on self-testing kits usage and the importance of knowing their status, a great number of locals would be advantaged.
Wanzala noted that locals are asked to attend such seminars when convened as they were meant to improve health standards.
Grace Wairimu, his counterpart, said funds need to be allocated every budget year to help with such programmes.
Elsewhere, the county’s lobby groups have been challenged to engage NGO bodies on their initiated development projects.
Nominated MCA Caroline Ogot, speaking to a group of lobby groups this morning at Kisumu Polytechnic, asked the lobby groups to incorporate NGOs in their work plans.
“By incorporating the NGOs, the lobby groups would be empowered fully through capacity building, trainings, mentorship and giving aid to them for various projects,” added Ogot.
She further challenged the lobby groups’ officials to have united team work sessions from various groups for proper working schedules.
