Kiambu director of Environment Andrew Kimani has urged youth groups in Thika sub-county to apply for provision of garbage collection services in the county.
Speaking in Ngoingwa Estate, Thika on Tuesday, Kimani said garbage collection services were a viable business opportunity in the county yet many youth had not embraced it.
"Garbage collection is an activity that can help many youth earn an income yet many have not embraced it. Youth groups who come to us with minimum qualifications to be awarded the contract for the job are always given the first priority," he said.
The director said youth groups that get the contract could do the job by themselves without the need of hiring other people to do it for them.
"The Sh50 that the garbage collectors charge per household every month provides good monthly revenue for those doing the job. It is something worth doing", he said.
He further noted that the requirements for the award of contract were minimal that many registered youth groups in the county would easily afford.
