Athi River Sub-County adult education officer, Simon Masila, has called on charitable organisations within the region to mobilise communities for sensitisation on critical issues through edutainment.
Addressing journalists in Athi River Town on Wednesday, Masila said that edutainment works as a strategy for community mobilisation.
"I advise managements of charitable organisations in Athi River Sub-County that include Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBO) and Faith Based Organisations to adopt edutainment as a strategy to mobilise members of the public," said Masila.
Masila said edutainment is all about educating the public through education and entertainment, a strategy that has proven to be among the best in passing on messages to communities.
He said the strategy involves use of skits, drama, poetry, theatre or other ways of educating the public to pass intended messages as the audience get entertained.
According to the officer, messages on good morals, keeping safe from sexually transmitted infections (STI's) and HIV/Aids, girl child education, communal peaceful coexistence, among others, can be passed on to the public through edutainment.
Masila said majority of the sub-county residents can get attracted to the strategy given that it is not as boring as plainly passing messages to the public.
He called on the youth and women from the region to come up and form participatory groups which can be empowered with edutainment skills to help infiltrate messages of great importance to area residents.
