Civil society organisations have been challenged to put in place programs that will see Kenyans across the country sensitised on how to conduct themselves during protests.
The Kenya Parents Association national chairman Nicholas Maiyo says recent violence witnessed during protests following declaration of the disputed Presidential results was as a result of most of those involved not knowing how to protest safely.
Addressing the press at the Teachers Advisory Centre (TAC) in Eldoret town, Thursday, Maiyo further accused politicians of using unemployed youths in the protests that resulted into a clash between them and the police.
"Most of those who take part in the demonstrations are usually hungry and whenever they come across a food selling joint they are always tempted to look leading to a clash with the police," noted Maiyo.
"Non Governmental Organizations need to sensitise people on how to protest safely especially those below 25 years as they are the ones mostly used in protests," he added.
He also advised parents to take care of their children to ensure they are not caught in between clash between protesters and the police.
"Children are always curious and whenever their is gunshots and teargas they might be tempted to move closer without knowing the danger they are putting themselves in," said the Parents Association's national chairman.
