Kisumu-based non–charitable organisations have been challenged to allocate more funds to build more orphanages in the region.
Human right activist Kilen Omondi, speaking on Tuesday at the Tom Mboya Labour College at an awareness creation forum organised to promote the locals welfare, said that most of the children were orphaned at a tender age and needed guidance.
He challenged the NGOs to allocate funds for the orphanages in the region to reduce the high rate of street children and to help them acquire basic needs they may have lacked.
“Let us build more orphanages to see our orphans get basic needs they may have lacked. This would improve the social welfare amongst locals,” noted Omondi.
Kisumu county voice spokesperson Audi Ogada emphasised that the region needed more orphanages challenging the NGOs to allocate funds in seeing more orphanages built to settle the orphaned children.
He noted that locals needed an improved welfare as children remained parentless; others remained in the care of grandparents who lacked effort to give parental guidance challenging more orphanages to construct to help society against street children.
“We need to construct orphanages in our region to settle the orphans around, this would help curb orphans becoming homeless,” said Ogada.
