The national council of NGO’s of Kenya has urged the government through the relevant authorities and agencies to ensure that a long-lasting measure is put in place to ensure roads are safe for all travellers.
In a statement to newsrooms, the chairman of council Stephen Cheboi said even as they support night travel ban by the government as a short-term measure to prevent road accidents, the national transport and safety authority and the police should remain vigil to avoid any more deaths caused by road carnages.
“Even as we support the night travel Ban we urge Government through the relevant road authorities and agencies to ensure that long-lasting measures will ensure are put in place to ensure our roads are safe for all travellers in future,” said Cheboi.
Cheboi said it is very sad that Kenya has lost several people in the recent past through roads accidents that sometimes could have been prevented.
“We urge that Police, the NTSA, other Government agencies and even the drivers, public service vehicles mowers and travellers remain vigilant always to avoid road accidents this year and beyond.” He added.
He noted that while at times it is difficult to control accidents, as a nation we can put measures that can manage the accident situations by ensuring that Road safety measures are fully adhered to.
The NGO’s chair urged the Government to ensure that roads safety measures are followed to the later without compromise.
“All Citizens and especially passengers travelling should also help ensure that drivers drive safely on our roads.” Said the chair.
