The National Council of Non-governmental organizations has praised the Jubilee government’s efforts to compensate the integrated IDPs.
In a press statement, the council’s chairman, Stephen Cheboi, said the compensation was a step in the right direction.
“We laud the step by the Government of Kenya to compensate integrated Internally displaced (IDPs) persons as result of the 2007/2008 post election violence. The compensation of integrated IDPs in some parts of the country is a step in the right direction. All Kenyans should support the good intention by Government to uplift the lives of Kenyans who suffered during post-election period,” he said on Thursday. Cheboi commened President Uhuru Kenyatta for the action to compensate the IDPs, urging him to ensure any pending integrated IDPs across the country are considered for the compensations.
The Council also called for peaceful campaigns as the country nears the August general election.
“We call for peaceful campaigns across Kenya as various politicians move from one area to the other seeking support of the Kenyan people.”
Cheboi urged major political parties and their supporters led by the President of Jubilee and Raila Odinga of NASA, to always remain tolerant to each other and avoid using abusive languages that may threaten the peaceful coexistence of the Kenyan people any where around the country.
He asked the police and other agencies to deal with hate mongers during the campaign period.
