Kerubo whose organisation deals with rehabilitation of drug addicts and street children in Nakuru town said that it is possible to get the families off the streets if government and NGOs could partner.

Speaking when she paid a courtesy call to the social department offices in Nakuru town on Wednesday morning, Kerubo urged NGO’s to allocate part of their donor funding to help the street children get back into their normal lives by getting them a home.

“This problem of street families cannot be left to government alone because the government might not solve it on its own without help from other sectors. As NGO’s we must be part of a group helping these children and getting them out of streets. By doing so I think it will be the best way through which we can help reform our society,” said Kerubo.

Rispa Weshe from the county department of social services said that the county government is committed  to ensuring that the street families are removed from the streets and integrated back into the society.

“The county government has clearly stated that rehabilitating street families will be part of its programmes of cleaning up the town and that is something that is being worked on and soon together with other partners we are going to initiate the programme,” said Weshe.
