Lobby groups in Kiambu County have hit out at NGOs in the area for not sensitizing the youth on social issues.
Speaking on Monday at Thika Stadium, Integrated Education for Life, through their chairperson, who is also the groups Director James Thuo said that the NGOs have not been doing enough to empower the youth and other lobby groups in the area, and have not been in the forefront to highlight issues in the society.
According to Thuo, the NGO bodies have not held trainings for lobby groups and youths to create awareness, and have not launched empowerment programmes for the locals.
“NGOs should come up with training programmes to empower lobby groups and create awareness on social issues, this will change Kiambu as a whole,” noted Thuo.
The director also accused some NGOs of neglecting lobby groups, by not including them in their plans, adding that empowerment is the key to youth growth.
Thuo accused some NGOs of mismanaging funds meant for training and empowerment programmes.
“It has come to our notice that some of our colleagues misuse the funds allocated for them on looting means, this should abruptly stop if change will be realized,” he concluded.
