Machakos County government has donated food stuffs, blankets and mosquito nets to 400 families whose houses were destroyed by heavy rains on Friday at Nguluni Ward in Matungulu sub-county.
Speaking on Monday when he received the consignment in his office, Matungulu sub-county deputy commissioner Patrick Mwangi said the items will be distributed to the victims on Tuesday.
Mwangi said that at least 200 families have been rendered homeless following the heavy rains that have been pounding the area.
“We have received 160 sacks of maize, food stuffs and other items from the county government to help victims of the storm disaster,” said Mwangi.
The deputy commissioner said that a list of victims is being compiled by area ward representative.
Mwangi appealed to other well-wishers to chip in and help the families who are mostly children and the elderly.
Heavy rains which destroyed roof tops, houses and crops were experienced in the area on Friday.
Area MP Stephen Mule said that a meeting with area leaders will be convened to discuss the way forward on how to assist the victims.
