Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner has warned Nyumba Kumi members against harassing residents by soliciting money from them.
Speaking on Wednesday in Nguluni after residents in the area decried harassment by Nyumba Kumi members in the area, Patrick Mwangi said it was despicable for Nyumba Kumi members to terrorise residents.
The deputy commissioner said Nyumba Kumi members should work closely with the police and chiefs to ensure security to residents.
"Nyumba Kumi initiative is a free service meant to ensure security and peace to the residents and should not be treated as a hideout for criminals who harass residents,” said Mwangi.
He said action will be taken against anyone who will be found culpable of the act.
Mwangi also warned the Nyumba Kumi members against taking the law into their hands and urged them to hand over criminals to the police.
Nguluni residents complained of getting mugged and beaten by members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative adding that when they report the cases, no action is taken against the perpetrators.
This comes after a man was attacked by people said to be Nyumba members.
