The deceased is said to have been attacked by her grandson Reuben Kimani, 31, as she was working on her farm.

Ngunjiri condemned the rampant abuse of bhang by area youths after reports emerged that the suspect is a heavy smoker, which could have triggered the heinous act.

“It is apparent that some people have been growing the illegal drug here and many youths are now addicted to it. It is sad to note that no one has been brave enough to assist the law enforcers in arresting the culprits and bringing them to book. I urge everyone to play their role in curbing such unfortunate incidences by reporting law breakers to the police or the area chief”, Ngunjiri said.

According to the neighbours and witnesses, the suspect attacked his grandma with a hoe, as she was tilling her shamba.

“Kimani found his grandmother working on the shamba and asked whether he could give a hand. The old lady handed over the hoe that she was using and sat down few yards away as the grandson started weeding. Suddenly, the man turned on her and struck her to death. The police arrived shortly and arrested him as he defiantly threatened the neighbours with a panga he was holding,” narrated Alice Waceke, a neighbour.

The suspect was arrested and is in police custody at Maili Kumi police station awaiting to be taken to court while the body of the deceased was moved to Nakuru County Government mortuary.
