Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has taken a jibe at the International Criminal Court for piling pressure on the Kenyan government to extradite three suspects to the court on witness tampering charges.
He said the court should instead go after retired ICC prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo for conducting shoddy investigations and not Walter Barasa, Paul Gicheru and Philip Bett who are facing charges of tampering with witnesses.
Speaking in his constituency Tuesday morning, Ngunjiri said the principal cases at the court collapsed; and the three thus, have no case to answer.
“ICC should not be coming after these Kenyans. It should be going after Ocampo who was the person who took to court six of our people six years ago on very shoddy grounds and he did it because of political pressure,” said Ngunjiri.
He said if the three have cases to answer, due process should be followed and the matter can be handled by the Kenyan Judiciary in tandem with cooperation from the ICC.
The Bahati legislator further said he does not support Kenya’s exit from ICC since hate remarks being made by some leaders are on the rise.
He suggested to the court to follow up on such matters and hold to account those responsible and not rely on human rights reports which are often skewed to favour a certain group of people.
“They should follow up on those making inciting remarks and they do their own investigation not relying on human rights reports; they don’t have to follow these three people anymore,” said he.
