Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has called on more youth groups to apply for Uwezo funds to help in creating more employment opportunities and partake in development.
Speaking on Friday at Kiamaina Grounds in his constituency during disbursement of extra Sh1.72 million for youth, women and people living with disabilities, Kimani noted that most registered youth groups in the area have been reluctant to apply for the funds.
“The main objective for establishing Uwezo Fund kitty was to target Women groups and youths. I would like to challenge more youth groups to apply for the funds as they have been set aside available for them,” Ngunjiri said.
“There are 75 youth groups funded by Uwezo Fund in the constituency, which represents 25.6 % and 213 women groups with 72.7 % representation. There were only 4 groups with People with Disabilities taking a mere 1.4 % of the total funds released,” he added.
Kimani also encouraged the youths to engage in more income generating projects as he promised to support the existing ones by procuring goods and services from them.
“We have Maili Sita Youth group which deals with mining and selling building stones. They have received a cheque for Sh50,000 today up from Sh10,000 they received in the previous phase. I directed stones needed in all the CDF funded projects to be sourced from the youth group's quarries to promote them,” Kimani quipped.
