Bahati Member of Parliament Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri has said he will accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC). Kimani is among more than 100 lawmakers who will travel with the President in what they call showing solidarity to the President when he appears in the court chamber on Tuesday. He was expected to pick his visa on Friday noon. Ngunjiri told HiviSasa.com that Kenyatta is innocent and has no case to answer. “I believe the President has no case to answer and was the reason why trial has been delayed. They could be hiding something from us and it is good if the President travels there to show that he was cooperating,” said Ngunjiri. He said he was going to the Hague since they come from the same party and “the accusations he is facing are not valid”. “I come from the Rift and the accusations he is facing are not true. I am going there personally to know and answer to my people in knowing the truth. We want this case to end once and for all,” said Ngunjiri. The lawmaker says it is high time the ICC saw how innocent the President is. “He is not only escorted by his lawmakers but also by other African leaders. If he were not innocent, how and why would he have so many followers in solidarity?” questioned Ngunjiri. Ngunjiri says the chief prosecutor has done shoddy work since she claims she does not have enough evidence. “We believe they will discharge him with honour and dignity,” he said. If he attends the Netherlands-based court, he will be the first sitting President to do so.
