National Health Insurance Fund has embarked on stakeholders partnerships to sensitize Machakos County residents on need to register with NHIF.

NHIF Machakos Branch manager Ali Yunis said they will work with various stakeholders including the provincial administration to effectively reach out to locals at the grassroots level.

"The multi-sectoral approach aims at raising the NHIF membership in Machakos County to 1 million from the current 300,000," Yunis said.

Yunis spoke during the launch of the initiative in Machakos town on Wednesday.

 "We are registering everyone from the Village through this partnership as a way of pushing our numbers higher," he added.

The meeting which was attended by chiefs, assistant county commissioners, and deputy county commissioners was chaired by the Machakos County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa.

Sakwa directed the administrators to launch NHIF sensitization campaigns in their respective administrative regions.

"We are going to use all means including 'barazas' and door to door campaigns to ensure every resident inMachakosCounty is covered by NHIF this year," Sakwa said.

She said over 8,000 elderly persons of above 70 years had benefited from the government's free NHIF program in the county.
