Speaking at the M-Pesa Academy in Thika during the launch of the Great Debaters contest 2018, the CS urged all school principals to ensure no student pays money whenever he or she is admitted to hospital.

“The injured students will not be required to pay any money for them to be discharged from hospital, because the government has rolled out an NHIF scheme to help learners access free medical care at health centers,” she said.

“Sh4 billion NHIF cover for all secondary school learners is operational after the government rolled out the program. School principals should use the scheme and ensure students are treated at hospitals for free,” she added.

She warned hospitals and their managements against demanding medical bills from students, adding that any hospital found guilty will pay dearly.

The CS urged parents should not to worry about their children’s health while in school as anyone who gets ill will be taken to a hospital, and NHIF will cater for all the medical expenses.
