Augustine Alegeh who is the President of the Bar and also the Chairman of the African Bar Leaders’ Forum said they had received with shock the news of the unlawful killing of Willie Kimani, who was abducted on his way from Court and killed along with his client and driver.

He condemned in the strongest terms the unwarranted and barbaric killing which constitutes an assault to the entire legal profession in Kenya and the entire African Continent.

“All lawyers must be allowed to represent their clients without fear, molestation and harassment from State agents or any other persons. This sordid act of cowardice must not go unpunished,” said Mr Alegeh.

The Nigerian Bar applauded the decision of the Law Society of Kenya to down tools and stop work for one week and support this decision in its entirety.

Mr Alegeh said they stand firm in support of the Law Society of Kenya and all lawyers.

He urge them to continue to carry out their professional duties without hindrance.

“We urge all members of the Law Society of Kenya not to be cowed by this dastardly act and to show their defiance and disdain for this killing by continuing to carry out their professional duties after the observance of the one week protest,” he added.

He stated that everyone must continue working to ensure the enthronement of the Rule of Law in all African countries.
