Several families are counting losses after a mysterious fire razed down a nine-room rental house in Miritini, Mombasa County on Thursday. 

Confirming the incident, Mombasa County Police Commander Johnston Ipara said that preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was started by a gas stove before spreading across the entire building at around 8.30pm.

"Our preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a gas stove from one of the rooms," said Mr. Ipara, as quoted by Daily Nation.

 He also said that firefighters from the county government of Mombasa managed to put out the fire, adding that there are no casualties who have been reported following the night fire.The nine families, which were living in the rental house, are likely to spend nights in the cold after the incident.
