Speaking in his office on Thursday, Naivasha sub-county Fisheries officer, Mathew Ngila said that they have decide to lift the ban after fish stocks at the lake became sufficient.

Ngila said that after restocking the lake late last year, fish stocks have gone back to the normal level and there was no need to continue imposing the ban.

“The lake was almost running empty and had we not imposed the night ban then we would have been left with a lake with no fish,” said Ngila.

He said that they are happy because the lake now has a replenished and enough fish stock and that is why we have decide to lift the ban.

Ngila however said that his department will closely monitor fishing activities in the lake with the aim of controlling overfishing tendencies by some fishermen.

The lake’s fishermen and boat operator’s Chairman David Kilo lauded the lifting of the ban saying that it will bring business at the lake back to life.

“Business had gone down here, but lifting of the ban will normalise things and we are happy about it,” said Kilo.
