Machakos Girls Secondary School community is mourning the death of a night watchman, after he was fatally hit by a public vehicle in front of the school gate.
The accident that occurred on Thursday night at around 9:00pm has been confirmed by Machakos police base commander Rashid Ali, who described the incident as a result of extreme over speeding.
“The PSV Nissan vehicle driver was driving very fast as he drove out from Machakos girl’s compound he tried applying the breaks but they failed and instead lost control hitting the Machakos girl’s gate together with the night guard who was opening the gate. Unfortunately the night guard died instantly following the fatal accident,” said Ali.
The driver of the vehicle is believed to have been driving at an extremely high speed, as reports indicate the body of the night guard was collected metres away from the accident scene.
The Machakos OCPD has confirmed the driver of the vehicle escaped the incident with several minor injuries.
“The driver has suffered minor injuries after the vehicle lost control and hit the schools gate wall, so the speed reduced and finally it stopped,” added Ali.
The body of the deceased was taken to Machakos level 5 Hospital mortuary, while the driver was rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital to receive treatment before facing trial for breaking traffic rules and murder case.
Rashid Ali has cautioned the public and private vehicles drivers to obey traffic rules to avoid the increasing rates of accidents.
According to a staff member in the school, the vehicle is said to have been hired by the school management to drop some school staff from a trip.
The vehicle wreckage has been pulled by the officers to Machakos police station.
