A night guard has been murdered at Matuu in Yatta, Machakos County.
A gang of robbers, armed with crude weapons broke into Redeemed Gospel Church and murdered the guard who was manning it during the incident on Thursday night.
The incident was confirmed by Yatta police boss Edward Changach who said the thieves got away with property of unknown value after they successfully broke into the church.
"It was reported by Matuu chief who said that thieves had broken into the church which is under construction. During the attack, a night guard was killed and property of unknown value stolen," Changach said.
Changach addressed the press in his office on Friday.
He said the robbers forced their entry into the church office and stole an assortment of items which the police are yet to establish their value.
Changach said police had launched investigations into the incident.
He said they were hunting on the suspects who were still at large by the press time.
The body was moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary awaiting postmortem.
