Traders in Machakos town 'marikiti market' on Saturday woke up to a rude shock after thugs broke their 15 shops on Friday night.
The thieves who broke the shops managed to run away with cash money and properties worth thousands.
Confirming the incident Machakos Mjini area chief, Fidelis Muli, said that the thieves beat up the guard in charge before accessing the market.
“The armed group of men accessed the shops after hitting a watchman on guard and left him with severe injuries including stubbing him on the neck. The men broke into 15 shops including Mpesa shops," said Muli.
Some of the products they stole were flour, maize, rice and cash money.
He noted that women were the most affected since they own most of the shops in the market.
Speaking on behalf of the business people who shops were broken into, the traders’ secretary, Elizabeth Mutiso, said the incident has really affected most of them since they rely on business.
“This is a big loss to us business people, since some of us has taken loans to boost our stocks,” notes Mutiso.
The traders had recently cried foul on the high rate of insecurity in the area.
On January this year two shops were broken into in the same market and thieves run away with goods worth thousands.
For now the traders are urging Machakos County Government to beef up security in the area.
