Night travel curfew along the Lamu-Garsen highway is still in force, Linda Boni operation Director Joseph Kanyiri has said.
Kanyiri said they are aware that some passenger and transport vehicles were traveling at night without police escort yet curfew was imposed requering passenger vehicles to be escorted by police following frequent attacks by Al Shabaab militants.
“It is important that motorists adhere to convey rules and respect the ongoing night travel ban. Night travels are not allowed up to date,” he said.
He asked drivers and passengers to respect the ban and ensure they have a police escort during the daytime.
According to Kanyiri Alshabaab terrorist have been targeting vehicles moving without the security escort.
Lamu county commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo threatened that motorists who will not adhere to the rules will be arrested.
"We shall arrest those found traveling at night for risking their lives and that such vehicles will also have their licenses withdrawn immediately,' Kitiyo said.
