Mombasa county commissioner Evans Achoki has banned night weddings in the county held without the clearance of police officers. This according to him is aimed at taming insecurity in the region ahead of the approaching festive season.Speaking to the media Saturday, Achoki directed that whoever wants to conduct such a wedding, considering that the county is predominantly made up of people of the Islamic religion who mostly hold the event at night, must notify the police and be issued with security."I know that this is the wedding period most of which are held at night.I, therefore, direct that no such weddings shall be held without police presence because of security concerns," he said."If one has to be held, then the organizers must notify either the area OCS or chief and be issued with police protection throughout the ceremony," he added.

This also comes at a time when the coastal strip has been a target of terror by the Somalian based All Shabaab terror group.
