After the 2007-2008 post-elections violence that left around 1,133 people dead and about 600,000 people displaced, the Koffi Anan-led negotiations resulted in the formation of a coalition government with the creation of a prime minister.
Mwai Kibaki as the president and Raila Odinga as the prime minister signed the national accord.The truth, justice and reconciliation commission, TJRC was then formed in 2008 to implement agenda 4 of the national accord.
National cohesion and integration commission, NCIC was also instituted to help in integrating different ethnic communities.
While both TJRC and NCIC have done a tremendous job in making sure the victims of post-election violence get justice, there is little to show in terms of reconciliation if the hate speeches and incitements that we hear every day, are anything to go by.
Reconciliations can only come after forgiveness. It seems some communities have not forgiven others for atrocities committed in 2007/8 thus, reconcialiation will remain a mirage.
