The president has been cautioned by the NIS that the fires in schools are bound to escalate in the coming days, hence schools should be closed to avert more destruction.

NIS also cited that more schools in Central, Kisii, Nyamira and Rift Valley are likely to be torched.

The intelligence department is also investigating to establish if there is a possible link among principals, politicians, students, teachers, residents, local suppliers and exam leakage cartels in the fire incidents.

Meanwhile, Education CS Fred Matiang'i continue to focus the blame on cartels involved in examination leakage, while teachers still maintain that it's Matiang'i stringent rules that are causing student unrest.
