Kiambu MP Jude Njomo has urged residents to apply for electricity connection following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to lower down connection tariffs.
Speaking at Ting'ang'a market in Kiambu on Wednesday, Njomo lauded the directive by the president saying it will see many homes lit.
“As Kiambu people and leaders we are happy and appreciate the directive by our president to reduce electricity connection tariffs,” he said.
Njomo intimated that the economy of Kiambu and the country at large will grow once electricity connection prices come down.
He noted that many Kiambu households have no connection to power supply a situation he said has contributed to high levels of poverty.
The legislator also noted that schools stand to benefit from the lowering intimating that half of Kiambu schools have no power connection.
“Our education performance will rise once all our schools get connected to electricity,” he said.
Njomo urged companies and government agencies mandated to supply power to implement the President directive immediately for residents to enjoy.
Njomo said that he will work with relevant agencies both at the county and the national government level to oversee the process.
“Following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive that lowered electricity connection tariffs, I am determined to push for electricity supply across Kiambu,” he said.
